Live Late
It's here a little later than I said it would be, but RoMPS is finally up and running. You might have to refresh/CTRL+refresh if things look messed up. You get a bonus song for your troubles. Just so you know, regular RoMPS updates won't be kept track of here on the front page. They'll clutter things up far too quickly. RoMPS will be updated every few days, so please check often. Some Javascript trickery had to be employed to get the Flash player and the sidebar working correctly, so please tell me if something doesn't work as advertised or looks horribly wrong.
I'm working on getting a Links page going. It'll probably be up soon after this post, but I thought I'd pass on a few relevant links while we're on the topic of video game music.
- #gamemp3s: An IRC / BitTorrent release group that focuses mainly on new releases. They were on a short hiatus, but they recently came back with a string of high-profile releases, most of which are still well-seeded.
- Song of the Week: A site I very recently discovered (like the week before bringing RoMPS back) that uploads a few choice VGM songs per week. Songs are voted on by a small community and as a result, the song choices are very eclectic and more varied than you'd get from RoMPS alone. Best to check both our sites on a regular basis!
- Slightly Dark: A small release group that specializes in re-encoding and re-releasing out-of-print game music. Choices are definitely more obscure and a little more hardcore than you'd find on SotW or RoMPS.
- 8bitpeoples: One of the first established netlabels, 8bp doesn't focus on game music but rather game-sounding music. Albums are produced entirely in the style of old chiptunes or synth styles (sometimes with the actual consoles) and released free of charge by the artists themselves.
If you know who I am on Facebook, you'll see RoMPS songs hosted on my profile there right alongside the site updates. Same goes for my AIM profile, just to increase my multitasking cred. I know I said it last time, but I mean it: expect more front page updates soon.
